Insurance company Warta will support the development of offshore wind energy in Poland

From January this year. Warta’s marine insurance experts are involved in in the Polish Offshore Sector Deal, project organized by the Polish Ministry for Climate and the Environment. These activities are aimed at developing, signing and implementing the sectoral agreement “Declaration of cooperation for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland”.

– We want to actively build the insurance sector supporting the development of the Renewable Energy Sources market in Poland. One of the actions taken is our involvement in the Agreement shaped by the Polish Ministry for Climate and the Environment. As part of this initiative, we will analyze the financial and insurance expectations of investors, contractors, suppliers or institutions involved, and support knowledge about the requirements of the insurance market in the field of RES insurance. As a consequence, it will allow us to prepare insurance products and services, which will strengthen the protection and financial security of the investments carried out – explains Leon Pierzchalski, Managing Director responsible for the Department of Strategic Clients and Reinsurance at Warta.

To summarise one of the stages of work in the project, the “Sectoral Agreement for the Development of Offshore Wind Energy in Poland” was developed, to which Warta joined on September 21 this year. The document was also signed by a group of over 150 broadly understood stakeholders, including entities from government and local government administration, as well as investors, suppliers and service providers of the supply chain, non-governmental organizations, educational organizations
and financial institutions.

Intensive work is underway in Poland on projects related to the installation of new systems generating and storing clean energy. Offshore wind farms will play a key role in this process. Warta is currently the leader of the Polish marine insurance market, and the development of renewable energy insurance and supporting the energy transformation is part of our strategy. The plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and the rapid increases in the prices of electricity from traditional sources have made the role of renewable energy sources in the global economy increasingly greater. That is why Warta has already joined the initiative, which aims to obtain energy from cheaper sources, allowing at the same time to reduce the carbon footprint, with minimal environmental costs. – adds Leon Pierzchalski.
