FedEx Express introduces reusable packaging range

The new packaging has been designed to meet the growing needs of the developing e-commerce market, while promoting consumer behavior in the area of sustainability. The packaging is free for both new and existing FedEx customers, as are the rest of the various sizes of packaging available in the company’s portfolio.

FedEx reusable packaging, designed for shipments up to 2.5 kg, is resealable to facilitate product returns without the need for additional waste. The new reusable packaging is available in Small, Large and Extra-large sizes. There is also an option in which the packages have been lined with a layer of material in the bubble technology.

“Adding reusable products to our packaging offer can make a real difference, promoting a positive change in the way consumers think and behave. While returns are not always avoided in e-commerce, we see a growing awareness among consumers of the need to reduce the number of packages and the possibility of reusing them. Reusable packaging is one of the ways we can make it easier for our customers and their customers to make sustainable choices by introducing a solution that minimizes waste, ”said David Canavan, Chief Operating Officer, FedEx Express Europe.

The 2018 Cross-Border E-Commerce Shopper Survey published by International Post Corporation [1] found that as many as 60 percent of shoppers chose “agree” or “strongly I agree ”for saying that they would like e-commerce packaging to be sustainable. The new product has undergone extensive performance testing so that even when reused, customers still receive the same high-quality product they expect from FedEx without the need for additional tape.

Circular economy solutions are an important part of FedEx’s approach to sustainability. With its goal of achieving operational neutrality in terms of CO 2 emissions globally by 2040, European business is transforming procurement practices to include – and prioritize – the sustainability criteria development.

As FedEx Express moves towards a greener approach to consumption and production, the introduction of reusable packaging is just one of the ways the company encourages customers and their recipients to do the same.
