Żabka Group amongst leaders in integrating ESG policy according to EcoVadis

Żabka Group has been rated among the 1% of companies in the world that, according to the EcoVadis rating system, best integrate ESG factors within their strategy and operational activities – writes Tomasz Suchański, CEO of Żabka Group in their latest Sustainability Report for 2021..

Żabka Group has introduced a comprehensive Responsibility Strategy that is fully integrated with the organization’s business strategy. The summary of the activities undertaken as part of its implementation is the fourth edition of their Sustainability Report , which was prepared according to the international non-financial reporting standards Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). In the publication, Żabka Group for the first time presented the impact of its activities on the Polish economy, expressed in the amount of PLN 5.3 billion of added value in 2021 and the number of 45.4 thousand jobs maintained throughout the country.

The past year, which is also the second year of the pandemic, has strengthened Żabka’s skills for flexible management of the organization, effective use of technology and taking into account the probability of various scenarios in the implementation of flagship projects. A very important step was the establishment of the Żabka Group, thanks to which a unique ecosystem of convenience solutions was created, making everyday life easier for customers. The creation of the Group was also associated with the adoption of a new model of operation, based on three elements: transformation of the modern convenience format, technological development and integration of responsibility.

Convenience Ecosystem

Żabka Polska is still the largest organizational unit within the Group. It includes over 8,300 stores operated by over 7,000 franchisees. A new business unit within the Group – Żabka Future, deals with searching for new opportunities and creating new businesses. Thanks to acquisitions made by Żabka Future, the Group has been expanded to include strong e-commerce platforms. Among them was the leader of dietary catering Maczfit and the Dietly.pl marketplace. Żabka Future is also the largest chain of autonomous stores in Europe, Żabka Nano, the first of which was opened a year ago. As part of the newly created start-up Lite e-Commerce, the q-commerce Żabka Jush! and Delio. Within the Group, there is also the Strategy and Central Functions Area, composed of teams responsible for setting directions for the Group’s development and developing strategies, including ESG, consumer, personnel and financial strategies. The new organization of the company allowed to maintain the high dynamics of the opening of Żabka stores, of which more than 1,100 were opened in 2021.

Sustainability Report for 2021

Their report titled “Convenient and Responsible” is the fourth Sustainability Report prepared by the Żabka Group. Information that can be found on nearly 100 pages presents a summary of selected activities carried out by the Żabka Group as part of the Responsibility Strategy in 2021.

The report also includes a summary on the achievement of goals defined in 4 strategic pillars: Pillar 01 – Sustainable lifestyle, Pillar 02 – Positive impact on the environment, Pillar 03 – Responsible organization and Pillar 04 – Green planet. The effects of activities have been transparently presented and discussed in tables with the results for 2021, and also presented in the context of selected activities undertaken by the Group in the area of sustainable development. The report also published information on the support provided to various stakeholder groups during the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as to Ukrainian citizens who have been affected by hostilities for over 100 days.

The “Convenient and Responsible” report was prepared in accordance with the latest non-financial reporting standard Global Reporting Initiative (GRI Standards) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). In addition, it includes information on reporting on activities aimed at implementing the 10 Principles of the United Nations Global Compact, in accordance with the Communication on Progress (CoP) guidelines, recommendations contained in the publication of the World Economic Forum – Measuring Stakeholder Capitalism: Towards Common Metrics and Consistent Reporting of Sustainable Value Creation and information on the organization’s contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The report was once again subjected to an independent, external verification.
