City of Milan promotes European Mobility Week

The City of Milan invites people to attend in-person and online events organized by Legambiente and Politecnico in connection with the 20th edition of The European Mobility Week starting on Thursday, 16th September.

In addition, this year Milan is joining the European Mobility Week to encourage citizens to move towards a sustainable way of travelling and taking better care of themselves by using of the benefits of active mobility and the use of low or zero emission transport.

The theme of the European Mobility Week 2021 for this year is “Safe and healthy with sustainable mobility”. The choice of this year’s theme pays tribute to the hardships felt by Europe – and the world – throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It also reflects on the opportunities for change resulting from this unprecedented health crisis in Europe. Citizens are encouraged to keep fit physically, take care of the environment and the health of others and change one’s habbits towards different more sustainable mobility alternatives.

The twentieth edition reflects on learnings gained during the pandemic and the ability of Milan to rethink how it approaches mobility and home to work, home to school travel – favoring choices oriented towards sustainable and healthy modes of transport, the redefinition of urban spaces to better reflect the demands of citizens and in connection with the environmental transition and the benefits on the environment and on citizens’ lifestyles.

From the 16 to 22 September the City will run various initiatives both online and in person such as: workshops on safe travel, training sessions on scooter road safety, meetings on emerging new professions such as Mobility Manager, as well as dedicated musical events to help raise awareness on climate change.

Apart from the Municipality of Milan, the organizers of the European mobility week as also include the Environment and Territory Mobility Agency (AMAT), Politecnico. Legambiente.
